“Kui moni raumalainen on tehny levyn, mikä jonai päivänä lähetetään avaruuteen?”

Romahduksen kokenut ammattihuilisti Pauli (Samuel Kujala) palaa lapsuudenkotiinsa Raumalle. Hän tapaa vanhan koulukaverinsa Iiriksen (Anna Rosaliina Kauno), joka sinnikkäästi taivuttelee Paulin mukaansa tekemään outoa musiikkia, jota kukaan ei tiennyt haluavansa kuulla. Aiemmin virheettömyyteen pyrkinyt Pauli alkaa löytää lohtua kummallisista äänistä ja omalaatuisesta ystävyydestä.

“How many people from Rauma have made a record that will one day be sent into space?”

Pauli (Samuel Kujala), a classical flutist, returns to his small Finnish hometown to recover after a breakdown. Unable to play, he feels like a failure. Pauli runs into Iiris (Anna Rosaliina Kauno), who makes experimental music by herself. Iiris starts persuading him to try and make some music together, and she’s convinced that by joining forces, they’d be able to create something completely new and unique. Pauli, who has always sought perfection, is drawn to her chaotic energy and finds comfort in their sonic experiments.

The film won a total of seven Jussi Awards, including in the categories of Film of the Year, Best Director and Best Screenplay (Lauri-Matti Parppei), Lead Actor of the Year (Samuel Kujala) and Breakthrough Performance of the Year (Anna Rosaliina Kauno).

Kävelyä ohjaavat niiden kertomukset, joiden elämää ekologinen trauma on muokannut: paikallisten yhteisöjen, maahanmuuttajien ja muiden, joilla on omakohtaista kokemusta ympäristön epävakaudesta. Helsinki näyttäytyy heidän näkökulmastaan. Yhdessä kävelemällä teos pyrkii luomaan yhteisen tilan kuuntelemiselle, välittämiselle ja kulttuurienväliselle ymmärrykselle.

Mitä tarkoittaa kantaa useita alueita yhdessä ruumiissa? Miten muisti voi paljastaa ilmastoepäoikeudenmukaisuuden eriarvoiset todellisuudet?

Borrowed Cities (Lånade städer) är en platsspecifik ljudvandring som tar publiken med på en guidad tur genom Helsingfors.

Verket använder staden själv som scen för att utforska hur ekologiska förluster och migration rubbar vår känsla av tillhörighet. Genom att projicera fragment av hotade städer på Helsingfors gator ifrågasätter verket uppfattningen att kriser bara berör de platser där de inträffar och antyder att städer tar till sig berättelser, sorger och framtider från fjärran platser.

Berättelserna från dem vars liv har präglats av ekologiska trauman – lokalsamhällen, invandrare och andra som har upplevt miljöförändringar – styr vandringen och låter oss se Helsingfors ur deras perspektiv. Genom den gemensamma vandringen vill verket skapa ett delat rum av lyssnande, omsorg och förståelse över kulturgränserna. Vad innebär det att bära flera geografier i en och samma kropp? Hur kan minnen belysa de ojämlika realiteterna i klimatorättvisan?

Borrowed Cities is a site-specific audio-walk that leads audiences on a guided tour through Helsinki.

The performance sets off from Cultural Centre Caisa on the courtyard of Kaikukatu 4 B.

The work uses the city itself as the stage for exploring how ecological loss and migration unsettle our sense of place. By projecting fragments of endangered cities onto the streets of Helsinki, the piece challenges the idea that crises belong only to their locations and suggests that cities absorb stories, griefs, and futures from far away.

The narratives of the ones whose lives have been shaped by ecological trauma – local communities, immigrants, and others with lived experience of environmental instability, guide the walk and allow Helsinki to be seen through their perspective. By walking together, the work tries to create a shared space of listening, care, and cross-cultural understanding.

What does it mean to carry multiple geographies within one body? How can memory reveal the uneven realities of climate injustice?
