Nordic Banjo on kahden suomalaisen huippubanjistin muodostama duo, jonka ohjelmisto koostuu tunnetuista pohjoismaisen kansanmusiikin kappaleista sovitettuna viisikieliselle bluegrass-banjolle ja kitaralle. Duon tavoitteena on tuoda amerikkalainen banjo osaksi pohjoismaista pelimannikulttuuria ja toisaalta tehdä suomalaista perinnemusiikkia tunnetuksi maailmalla.
Nordic Banjo yhdistää useat pohjoiseurooppalaiset perinteet, jotka juontavat juurensa metsäsuomalaisten savuisista saunoista ja muinaisten skandinaavien yhteisöllisistä pitkätaloista. Sovitukset laajentavat kunnioittavasti satojen vuosien ajan perheiden, sukulaisten ja naapureiden kautta säilyneitä melodisia ja rytmisiä tekstuureja.
Afroamerikkalaisen viisikielisen selostamana Nordic Banjo osuu maailmanmusiikin ytimeen. Banjolle idiomaattiset näppäilykuviot ja bordunat yhdistettynä boreaaliseen ääni-ilmastoon luovat mystisen ilmapiirin, jossa voi samanaikaisesti kuulla lukemattomia arkaaisia tarinoita eri kielillä ja murteilla kerrottuna. Nordic Banjon syvin olemus kiteytyy osuvasti suomen kielen sanassa viisikielinen: universaali ääni, joka puhuttelee ihmisiä mantereiden välillä.
Lauri Häme on helsinkiläinen muusikko ja lauluntekijä. Vuodesta 2004 hän on esiintynyt banjistina ja laulajana indie folk -yhtye Rautakourassa. Instrumentalistina hän kokeilee jatkuvasti uusia perinteisten ja nykyaikaisten äänimaisemien yhdistelmiä.
Miihkali Jaatinen on monipuolinen musiikin ammattilainen ja yksi Suomen arvostetuimmista banjisteista. Toimi hän sitten kitaristina, banjistina tai tuottajana, leimaa hänen työskentelyään toisaalta tekemisen tinkimättömyys, toisaalta ennakkoluuloton luova heittäytyminen.

Tietokirjan ”Saako pahan peikon tappaa? – Oikeus ja kohtuus Topeliuksen saduissa” julkistustilaisuus järjestetään sunnuntaina 14.1.2024 klo 16–17.30 Töölön kirjaston 4. kerroksen tapahtumatilassa (Mika Waltari -sali).
Teoksen on kirjoittanut oikeustieteen tohtori Tuula Pere, ja se on saanut tukea Suomen tietokirjailijat ry:ltä. Kirja sisältää noin viidenkymmenen sadun oikeudellisen analyysin lisäksi laajan katsauksen autonomian ajan yhteiskunnan ja oikeudellisen elämän kehitykseen sekä Topeliuksen ajatuksiin oikeudenmukaisuudesta.
Kirjailijaa haastattelee oikeushistorian ja roomalaisen oikeuden emeritusprofessori Jukka Kekkonen, joka pitää myös alustuksen 1800-luvun yhteiskunnan oikeuskehityksestä. Kommentointiin ja keskusteluun osallistuu lisäksi kirjallisuuden emeritaprofessori Leena Kirstinä.

Tervetuloa pohjoismaiseen kirjallisuuspiiriin, jonka toteuttavat Pohjoismaisen kulttuuripisteen kirjasto ja Helsingin Keskustakirjasto Oodi. Kevätkaudella tapaamme kerran kuussa Keskustakirjasto Oodissa tai Pohjoismaisen kulttuuripisteen kirjastossa. Luemme pohjoismaista kaunokirjallisuutta ja keskustelemme teoksista yhdessä, mutta osallistuminen on mahdollista myös ilman kirjan lukemista. Seuraavan kerran kirja valitaan kussakin tapaamisessa. Tapahtumiin ei tarvitse ilmoittautua ennakkoon. Keskustelun kielenä on ruotsi.
