The work, consisting of an animation short film and a series of drawings, explores emotions such as nostalgia, distance, the passage of time and the relationship between grandmother and granddaughter. The project serves as a tool to revive memories and communication between both women despite the distance.<br><br><strong>Nanita, para siempre</strong> <em>Nanita, para siempre</em> is a piece focusing on my grandmother. Since I arrived in Finland, in 2013, I have initiated a project concerning Ms. Nohemy Figueroa Garcia, an 87-year-old lady living in Bogotá Colombia, my dear grandmother or “nanita” as my siblings and I have called her since we were children. During the last seven years, I have filmed her every time I go back home, and I have compiled audiovisual material that I have been transforming into an animation film. </p><p>The film explores emotions such as nostalgia, distance, the passage of time and the relationship between grandmother and granddaughter, and the project serves as a tool to revive memories and communication between the two women despite the distance.<br><br> The work has been supported by The Center for the Promotion of Finnish Arts, TAIKE and has been developed partly at an artist residency with Finnish Cultural Institute in New York and Residency Unlimited.</p><p> <strong>BIO</strong> </p><p> <strong>Paola Fernanda Guzmán Figueroa</strong> is a Colombian/Finnish visual artist and filmmaker. She has a BA and MA degree from The University of the Arts Helsinki and a BA in Visual Arts from Universidad Javeriana, Bogotá, Colombia. Her work draws on the narratives and the lived realities of her family members and the geographical distance among them, and reflects and raises issues related to mobility, family relationships, and aging. Paola’s art dissolves frontiers and connects the past with the present by evoking situations, stories, and bodies that are placed in constant motion and in dialogue with each other.</p><p>Her work has been exhibited in numerous venues and has been documented in different media. <em>Time Travel</em> was showcased at CICA Museum, South Korea (2022), performed at El Retiro Park, Madrid (2020), and Governors Island, New York City (2023). <em>Mommy say something to the camera, mom!</em> has been showcased at Cinemassí Latin-American Film Festival in Helsinki (2022) Doclisboa International Film Festival (2023).
