The Grammy Award-winning musician has worked, for example, with Miles Davis and Art Blakey, and released more than 20 solo albums.</p><p>Savoy JAZZFest will feature tracks from Garrett’s latest album Sounds from the Ancestors (2021), which pays homage to the rich R&B, jazz and gospel tradition of Garrett’s hometown Detroit. The album is also a tribute to his musical role models, from singer Aretha Franklin to pianist-composer Chucho Valdés. The album, which received rave reviews, was named one of the best jazz albums of 2021.</p><p>Garrett’s compositions include elements of post bop, blues and R&B. His playing combines virtuosity, melodicism and strong expressiveness.
