Sisarukset <b>Annie, A.R.C.</b> ja <b>Edward Brown</b> olivat vasta teini-ikäisiä perustaessaan perheyhtyeen vuonna 1971.</p><p>Viikonloppuisin sisarukset matkustivat pitkin raamattuvyöhykettä esiintyen joskus jopa kolmesti päivässä. Tuohon aikaan rotuerottelu oli virallisesti päättynyt, mutta yhtyeen jäsenet eivät olleet aina varmoja, millaisen vastaanoton he saisivat – olisiko uusi yleisö avoin heille tai palvelisivatko paikalliset ravintolat heitä.</p><p>Ryhmä sai suuren läpimurtonsa vuonna 1975 debyyttialbumillaan <i>When Do We Get Paid?</i>, johon teini-ikäiset sisarukset he ammensivat inspiraationsa suoraan omasta elämästään.</p><p>Staples Jr. Singers jakautui kahteen bändiin 1970-luvun lopulla, ja heidän debyyttialbuminsa unohdettiin vuosikymmeniksi, kunnes lähes puoli vuosisataa myöhemmin Luaka Bop -levy-yhtiö julkaisi kulttialbumiksi muodostuneen <i>When Do We Get Paid?</i> -levyn uudelleenmasteroituna versiona ja kokosi alkuperäisen bändin jälleen yhteen. Vuonna 2022 yhtyeen jäsenet nousivat ensimmäistä kertaa lentokoneeseen tehdäkseen Euroopan-kiertueen, ja sen loistavan menestyksen myötä Staples Jr. Singers teki myös levyllisen verran uutta musiikkia – ensimmäistä kertaa 50 vuoteen.</p><p>Syksyllä edelläkävijäyhtye nähdään vihdoin ensimmäistä kertaa Suomessa, kun he konsertoivat Helsingissä osana Savoy WORLD -konserttisarjaa. Nästan ett halvt sekel senare släppte skivbolaget Luaka Bop en remastrad version av kultalbumet When Do We Get Paid? och återförenade det ursprungliga bandet. År 2022 gick bandmedlemmarna för första gången ombord på ett flygplan för att göra en Europaturné, och i och med den lysande framgången gjorde Staples Jr. Singers även en skiva med ny musik – för första gången på 50 år.</p><p>Under hösten får vi äntligen se pionjärbandet i Finland när de uppträder i Helsingfors som en del av konsertserien Savoy WORLD. Siblings <b>Annie, A.R.C.</b> and <b>Edward Brown</b> were just teenagers when they formed a family band in 1971.</p><p>On weekends, the siblings travelled the Bible Belt, sometimes performing up to three times a day. Segregation had officially ended by then, but members of the band weren’t always sure what kind of reception they would receive – whether a new audience would be open to them or whether local restaurants would serve them.</p><p>The group had its big breakthrough in 1975 with their debut album, When Do We Get Paid?, for which the teenage siblings drew their inspiration directly from their own lives.</p><p>The Staples Jr. Singers split into two bands in the late 1970s, and their debut album was forgotten for decades until nearly half a century later when the Luaka Bop label released a remastered version of the album that had become a cult classic, When Do We Get Paid?, and reunited the original band. In 2022, the band members boarded a plane for their first European tour, and with its great success, the Staples Jr. Singers also made an entire record’s worth of new music – for the first time in 50 years.</p><p>In the autumn, the pioneering band will finally be seen in Finland for the first time when they perform in Helsinki as part of the Savoy WORLD concert series.
