Viime vuonna 75 vuotta täyttänyt maestro Ahvenlahti on suomalaisen jazzin elävä legenda, joka jatkaa uudella levyllään 70-luvun klassikkolevyillään The Poet ja Bandstand aloittamaansa tutkimusmatkaa orgaanisesti groovaavan jazzfunkin maailmaan. Onkin helppo ennustaa, että uudet kappaleet albumilta ottavat paikkansa saman jatkumon oivina edustajina Ahvenlahden ja samalla kotimaisen jazzin tarinassa. Ahvenlahden yhtyeessä levyllä ja keikoilla mukana ovat trumpetisti Jukka Eskola, saksofonisti Joonatan Rautio, basisti Ville Herrala ja rumpali Jaska Lukkarinen – kukin maamme ykkösryhmää toteuttamassa säveltäjän visiota.</p><p>We Jazzin vuotuista pääfestivaalia on kuvailtu termeillä ”installaatio” ja ”utopia”. Nämä sanat kiteyttävät We Jazzin hengen ja suuntaavat ajatuksia perinteisen jazzfestivaalikentän ulkopuolelle.</p><p>Jazzin esittämisen tapojen uudistaminen onkin yksi tapahtuman keskeisistä pyrkimyksistä parhaan mahdollisen musiikin tarjoilemisen ohella.
